Crowd is 25 to 40, dressed sharp, mostly Black, mostly carioca. Hetero Black music scene, but couples and families with older kids fit right in. No specific gay night. Where the city's Friday lives until sunrise.
Parque Madureira
Largest park in Zona Norte. Skate, food, music by day. Baile Charme under the viaduct by night, every Saturday since 1991.
Parque Madureira is Black Rio's Zona Norte living room: skate ramps, food kiosks, Saturday musicians, families. At 10pm the Baile Charme kicks off under the Viaduto Negrão de Lima. Charme is slow soul / R&B / freestyle with a paired dance tradition regulars have refined for thirty years. Multigenerational, sophisticated, recognized as Rio cultural heritage.
Madureira is Black Rio
The neighborhood produced Mart'nália, Zeca Pagodinho, half the country's serious samba and pagode. Canonical to Black Brazilian music. Parque Madureira and Casa Black are two anchor points in a zone that has been the cultural lab of Black Rio for a century.
