Trust the Ground

Never walk Rio alone.

Streets shift block to block here. With BBE, a local is with you every day: on the ground, on call, and on the safe route home.

The short version: A local you'd trust like family is with you, the route is briefed in advance and pivoted in real time, the Portuguese is handled, and if something goes wrong we know exactly what to do.

The Six Pillars

How safety actually works on the ground.

01 · Experience Concierge

A local is with you. Every day.

Bryant, Ezequiel, Jonas, or Sivaldo, same crew who hosts our friends and family. Not a hired tour driver.

02 · The Long Weekend

Neighborhood rules before you step out.

Rio shifts block by block, hour by hour. Your Experience Concierge briefs the specific rules for the night before you're in it.

03 · Transport

Trusted drivers. Door-to-door. Late-night covered.

The ride home is locked in before you leave the venue. The most fragile part of a Rio trip, handled.

04 · Real-Time Pivots

If a plan stops being safe, we move it.

Backup options pre-loaded for every premium experience. Your Experience Concierge is empowered to change the plan in the moment.

05 · Portuguese

The language barrier disappears.

Your Experience Concierge handles tabs, drivers, vendors, doors. No "tourist surcharge" surprises, no "what did they just say?" moments.

06 · Medical Guidance

If something happens, we already know what to do.

Which hospitals to use, which to skip, how to navigate the system. Bryant is reachable any hour of any day a trip is in progress.

Trained Eyes On The Ground

Your Experience Concierges aren't just hosts. They read every room for safety first.

Ezequiel currently works security professionally. Your safety on the ground is his day job, not an afterthought. Jonas has worked security in the past, same instincts, same situational awareness. That's the kind of presence we want around you in a city like Rio.

Best-effort safety support, built on six years of local knowledge. Not a guarantee, just a crew that has your back, on the ground and in your pocket.

The human side of the safety net

Guardian's in your pocket.
A Lookout's by your side.

Hire a Lookout. A vetted young local who keeps a quiet eye on you and your things so you can actually relax. A beach day, a night out, a late walk on the sand, a market run: a Lookout fills the moments your Experience Concierge is not with you. It is a separate B.E Guardian buy: standalone starts at $69 for a local half-day, while BBE package travelers can ask about scoped weekly credits from $149.

Watches your stuff

Swim, nap, walk the shore. Your phone, bag and shoes stay watched by someone you trust.

Local price, no tourist tax

He buys the beach food, drinks and rentals, so you pay what locals pay and nobody runs the gringo markup on you.

A local presence

Someone who knows the beach, reads the vibe, and has your back just by being there with you.

Language handled

Your Lookout may not speak fluent English, and that is fine. A translator app covers the small stuff in seconds.

Every Lookout is a young local our crew personally vouches for. When you hire one, you are putting honest money straight into a young person's hands, and getting a real local in your corner.

What a Lookout is, and is not. A trusted set of eyes and a local connection, not a bodyguard, not security. Best-effort care, the same way we run everything. Booked separately through B.E Guardian for the hours your Experience Concierge is not with you. English, night, and premium coverage cost more than local daytime coverage; tips are encouraged for extra work. Compare EC and Lookout →

The Honest Guide

Is Rio safe for first-timers?

Short answer: yes, with the right routing. Rio is generous, fast, layered, and block-by-block. The risks are mostly petty, geographic, and behavioral, and almost all preventable. The honest, field-tested detail:

The honest read on Rio safety
Rio is not a city you should improvise blindly. Most problems are petty, not violent: phone snatches, drink scams, taxi overcharging, walking into the wrong neighborhood after dark. Almost all of it is preventable with a route, a local contact, and a few rules you can learn before your first beach day.
Where the actual risk is, the four things
1. The phone snatch is the most common incident, almost always because someone is walking and scrolling or has a phone face-up at a sidewalk café. Stop, step into a doorway, then look at it. 2. The wrong-neighborhood walk: the risk shifts block by block, so stay in Zona Sul (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Botafogo) by day and Uber anything over three blocks after dark. 3. The taxi scam: airport street taxis quote 2-3x the meter, use Uber or 99. 4. The bill scam at adult venues, go in informed.
Safety by neighborhood, honest
Zona Sul (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Botafogo) is the tourist core and the safest zone, fine to walk by day, calm at night in Ipanema and Leblon. Santa Teresa: charming by day, Uber home at night. Lapa: electric Friday and Saturday nightlife, leave by Uber, never on foot after 1am. Barra da Tijuca: lower crime but Uber-dependent and missing Rio's texture. North Zone and Madureira: Casa Black and the payday funk parties live here, worth experiencing once, but never alone, only with a local who is known there.
Solo women in Rio, what changes
Solo women have incredible trips here; it takes the same awareness any city needs plus a few adjustments. Street harassment happens, and the move that works is to ignore it and keep walking. The buddy system matters more at night, so Uber home even short distances. Keep your bag in front of you on the beach and your phone off the towel. Where BBE changes the equation: you arrive at every venue already known, the door person has your name, and Ezequiel or Jonas is on WhatsApp if anything feels off.
Moves that drop your risk close to zero
Get a Brazilian SIM the day you land (Vivo, Claro, or TIM; WhatsApp is the whole country's default). Use Uber and 99, not street taxis. Leave the watch, chain, and real jewelry in the safe. Carry two cards, leave the rest. Stay near Posto 4 to 6 in Copacabana your first trip, or Ipanema with more budget. Time the trip to payday (the 1st or the 15th), when the city is at 100%. Don't drink the tap water, bottled is everywhere.
What a local on the ground changes
Most of the risk comes from being a traveler who does not know the texture, which block is fine, which taxi line is official, which venue runs a bill scam. An Experience Concierge who has been on the ground for years removes most of that by default: you walk into rooms with someone the room already knows. Routed properly, Rio is one of the most welcoming, culturally generous cities in the world.
